John is indeed an American Hero.

To many people take for granted the freedoms we as Americans have. It is soldiers like your brother who remind me every day that freedom is not free, it’s earned!

I thank your brother and all men and women of the American Armed Forces.

    I am proud to announce that just yesterday my 8 year old son had to write a paper on what he’s thankful for (for thanksgiving). Below is what he wrote, with no input from us;

“I am most thankful for my family and friends. I am also thankful for the police, firefighters, Marines, Navy, Dr’s and the Military for saving and protecting our people and our country. I’m thankful for holidays and school but most of all I am thankful for where I live, America!”

I felt really proud of hearing stories like yours. Just to know that in this world there are still people like your brother who was able to give his life and defends the interests of his country just with the purpose of reaching his family’s and other people’s dreams without asking anything in exchange.
I am not from the U:S:A , but I think that people like your brother must remain in our minds and hearts as a sign that the sacrifice your brother made was worthy.

Well, Becca, there are no medals for you or your family, no official signs of your heroism, but to me, you are a family of heroes. I am terribly sorry for the loss of your brother. Once again I ask, what have we done to deserve the blessing of our wonderful troops? Each of them is more than we could ever deserve. You have given a great tribute to a great brother and a truly special person. You and your brother were clearly raised by people of great character and strength. Thank you for sharing such an important story with your fellow Americans. I think you can see from everyone’s comments that we are all truly grateful.

On the morning of 9-11, a close friend of mine, a widower and retired Air Force two star general, was sitting in his family room watching television when the first plane impacted the twin towers. Moments later, he grabbed his chest and died of a sudden heart attack. We all felt he died as a result of too much grief, rather than from coincidence or natural causes. Add one more death to the long list of people who perished on that fateful morning.

  15. Dave Hursh said:

Your brother, you and your family are wonderful people. Your story touches everyone’s heart immensley. If only all Americans would appreciate his and yours’ sacrifice like we should. This is the greatest country in the world and we need to remind ourselves everyday what your brother did for us to keep it that way!

I am so proud of your story, that it hurts.

Ms. Vaughn, I watched your video 4 times, to the point of weeping. I hold your brothers committment to service in the highest regard. I know you miss him every day, as I do as well. Your brother expemplifies the definition of bravery, truth, committment and sacrifice. For that, I will honor your brother each and every day for the ultimate sacriice he has made.

I have 2 sons, one aged 23 and the youngest aged 19. My 19 year old has a full scholorship to play lacrosse at the college he attends. His freshman year, 2009, he committed to ROTC and has since earned his wings in Airborne. He loves this country and will do whatever it takes to protect our freedom just as your brother did.

My oldest son, although not military inclined, produced a full length feature film of one dedicated Army soldier, supports our freedoms through his art. The film shows all of the good our fighting men and woman did in Iraq.

Feel free if you feel like it, to watch the trailer of the movie at http://www.changingus.com

If you would like to see the movie in it’s entirity, please let me know and I will send you as many copies as you like.

Again, your brothers sacrifice was not unnoticed, we Americans, true Americans., thank him and his family every day for the lives we are able to live..

    God Bless

Becca, I am you from 1968, when my only brother was killed in Viet-Nam. He loved his adopted country of America as much as your brother did, but was not even a citizen. Yet he fought along side his friends and gave the ultimate gift so I could continue to be raised here and enjoy all the incredible gifts our great country has to offer. He was 14 years older than me, and we were always very close as it was just the two of us. I have missed him deeply, yet remain very proud of having had him for almost 10 years of my life.

God bless your brother for his service, and for a wonderful sister as you really made my day this morning after finding this site and your story. We will always remember them.

Becca Vaughn, After 9/11 my son wrote a book at age 14. We live in New York and the last time we saw the Twin towers of the World Trade Center was 9/10 from a Street in Brooklyn called Flatbush Ave, walking toward Church Ave. We looked up the block toward the sky. My son said to me Ma we can see Manhattan all the way from Flatbush Ave as we walked and looked. I said Oh wow that’s great. Then by the next day we went to Manhattan on the train to get to our YMCA room at 63rd Street. On the TV that morning was this horror we didn’t want to believe was true. My family members that worked in the area were our biggest concern thank God they were okay. For your family I feel the same deep regret of his loss as I do the lives in this tragic and ungodly event.

My son wrote this poem: “Revelation 43″ I have a vision that when you make it into the kingdom of Heaven that in Heaven there’s no hurt, pain, sorrow and anger. But in Heaven there’s happiness, excitement, niceness, joy, fun and good feelings. by Jeremy I.A. Das Neves. (He wrote his book 2002/03.)

If we could live on this earth as it is in Heaven there would not be any more wars or need for the children of the earth to suffer from the terrorism of wars. How beautiful it is for the loved ones in Heaven and how beautiful for us all on earth it would be when we each choose to live by love and spread such love. I tell you it would be like Heaven on Earth indeed When we can see each other through God’s eyes. That’s what life is for. Love and peace to you. Itha
